Abbey Repointing Ltd specialises in traditional lime mortar repointing for older homes, solid wall properties, soft Belfast brick and period brickwork across Belfast, Newtownabbey and Northern Ireland. Lime mortar is often the correct choice for older brickwork because it allows the wall to breathe and manage moisture better than hard cement pointing.
Our work focuses on opening the joints properly, removing failed mortar carefully, repointing with suitable lime mortar and leaving the brickwork clean, tidy and protected where suitable.

Why Abbey Repointing

Honest work on every job

We understand that older brickwork needs the right mortar, not just any mortar. Abbey Repointing Ltd does not believe in covering problems up with a quick smear over the face. We open the joints properly, use the correct mortar for the building and explain the process clearly to the homeowner. This gives the wall a better chance to breathe, drain and dry naturally.

Common questions

Quick answers — or just WhatsApp us and ask.

Do you use lime or cement mortar?

It depends on your wall. Older, solid-wall and soft Belfast brick usually need a breathable lime mortar; some more modern walls can take a hybrid or cement mix. We advise honestly rather than forcing one system onto every job.

Will the new pointing match my existing brickwork?

We finish the beds and perps to suit your property and brush the wall down so the repointing blends in cleanly with the surrounding brickwork.

How long does lime mortar take to cure?

Lime cures more slowly than cement and needs the right weather and aftercare. We explain curing, misting and protection for your specific job, and only apply weatherproofing once it has cured properly.
