Work Title: Repoint in lime Work

Location: Cregagh Road, Belfast Northern Ireland

Description: We recently carried out lime repointing work on a property on Creagh Road, Belfast. During the project, we encountered some challenges, primarily due to the age and condition of the building. The existing mortar had deteriorated significantly over time, which led to moisture infiltration and a general weakening of the structure. Additionally, there were areas where the brickwork had shifted slightly, causing uneven gaps between the bricks.

To address these issues, we first conducted a thorough assessment of the building’s exterior to identify all affected areas. We then carefully removed the old crumbling mortar to avoid damaging the bricks. Using traditional lime mortar, which is more breathable than modern cement-based mortars, we repointed the structure. This method helps prevent moisture build-up and allows the building to breathe. Which is especially important in the damp climate of Northern Ireland.

We also paid close attention to the weather conditions, ensuring that work was carried out during dry spells to allow the new mortar to set property. Once the repointing was completed, the building was left with a more stable and durable exterior, restoring both its structural integrity and appearance. Overall, despite the challenges, the project was completed to a high standard, enhancing the building’s longevity and safeguarding it against further damage.

Work Title: Repointed in lime mortar

Location: South Belfast Northern Ireland

Description: Lime mortar repointing work at South Belfast. The property had suffered from significant wear and tear, particularly in the mortar joints, which had begun to deteriorate over time. This was mainly due to exposure to the harsh weather conditions typical of the area, leading to the mortar cracking and allowing moisture to seep into the structure. As a result, the brickwork was at risk of becoming unstable/

To resolve these issues, we first carried out a detailed inspection of the building to pinpoint the areas most affected by damage. Once we identified the problem areas, we carefully removed the old, damaged mortar without harming the surrounding bricks. This step is crucial to ensure the new mortar bonds properly with the brickwork.

We then used a traditional lime mortar, which is more suitable for older buildings as it allows moisture to escape, preventing future damage. Lime mortar is also more flexible, which makes it ideal for coping with the natural movement of the building.

Throughout the project, we worked following the unpredictable weather patterns in Northern Ireland, ensuring that the mortar had enough time to set properly. After the repointing was completed, the property was much more resilient to weathering, and its appearance was greatly improved. The work not only enhanced the structural integrity but also ensured that the building would stand the test of time.

Work title: Repointing Brick Work

Location: Newtownabbey Northern Ireland

Description: Repointing brickwork at a property in Newtownabbey. During the project, we encountered several challenges, primarily due to the age of the building and the condition of the mortar joints. Over time, the mortar had deteriorated, leaving gaps and cracks that allowed moisture to penetrate, which can lead to further damage if not addressed.

Our first task was to carry out a thorough inspection of the property to identify the most affected areas. We found that many of the mortar joints had cracked, which weakened the overall structure and exposed the bricks to the elements. In some areas the mortar had been replaced previously with an unsuitable material, causing further issues.

To solve these problems we carefully removed the old mortar making sure not to damage the surrounding brickwork. Once the joints were clean we repointed them using a high-quality lime mortar. This material is ideal for older buildings as it allows the structure to breathe, preventing moisture from getting trapped and causing damage over time. We also ensured that the new mortar was applied in such a way that it matched the original aesthetic of the property.

Despite the changes posed by the unpredictable weather in Northern Ireland, we look to working during dry spells allowing the mortar to set properly. The completed repointing has not only improved the building’s appearance but also enhanced its stability, protecting it from future weathering.
